Walking Dead

The Zombie apocalypse has been a recent and deep concern for the future of all humankind ... perhaps ever since Y2K or the end of the Mayan calendar... or perhaps since the world began?  Although the general views of zombies are of humans who are mad and cannibalistic, perhaps there is a more present danger among us: the not-so-cannibalistic zombie in hiding.

Zombies in hiding do not eat other humans, but they do suck up the positive energy in the room and replace it with a general feeling of despair and sorrow.  They are usually hard to get together with because they are afraid of inflicting another person with their personal raincloud, and so often go quiet to the world until they turn back into a normal human.  This may take days or weeks or months or years.  Zombies in hiding are very good at hiding, and it has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with their fears of bringing you down.  They are staying away because they want to protect you from themself.  The great news is that this type of zombie can come back to life.  The bad news is that it takes time, and it is a painful process of tearing through scare tissue to find soft skin again. It's a process that takes longer than zombies-in-hiding would like it to take, but it is a process none-the-less!

I am an expert at zombies in hiding, because I have been one for the last year.  My heart was broken, and I was pushed away and then shamed for leaving. I was promised commitment, so sacrificed my stability to embrace a new type, only to find after months of waiting for the adjusted schedule of my love to adjust again and again...that stability nor commitment were being offered any longer.

Something inside shatters when someone you love hesitates to love you through action... you doubt that you are enough.  You doubt that you will ever be enough for anyone. Actions, and the lack of actions, speak so loudly they mute out the words being said, and the whole world shakes and crumbles.

But zombies come back to life, and if they heal well the scars become masterful and beautiful artwork.  Trust can return.  Love can be risked. New life will grow from ashes.

Zombies are here, right now. They are the walking dead. Some of them are still in bed even though it is 3pm on a weekday.  And...that's okay, as long as you remember that you are loved.

Fellow zombies: you will heal. You were a normal human before hand.  You will become a normal human again.
